Course details

Ben Howe is regarded as one of Australia’s most formidable painters of photo-realism, and is highly regarded for his outstanding body of work which is both collected and exhibited on a regular basis.
Ben’s serious approach to the making of art gives students the opportunity to receive mentoring from an artist who is true to the traditional expectation of one who lives and breathes the making of images.
This course offers more experienced students who have studied the basics of observational painting the opportunity to build and enhance their talents in painting realism.
You will learn from the following:
- The use of brushes and brush strokes
- Colour theory and values
- Painting light and shadow
- Creating the under-painting
- Transferring images
- Articulating fine detail in painting
- Finishing a painting with glazes
- Canvas Preparation
Open to Intermediate and Advanced students who are committed to improving their skills and have an understanding of the oil painting medium. This rigorous class will also contain an emphasis on completing your work to its fullest potential and retaining your own personal touch through content, brush stroke and narrative.
