Classical Painting for Teens | Term 1

Taught by Elsie Preston who is an Honours graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts and a former student of the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS). Elsie is traditionally trained with a practice which spans across sculpture, drawing, painting and installation.

This course teaches students how to paint classical imagery in oil paint of stable surfaces such as canvas, oil painting paper and primed wood.

Students will study the following:

• How to use oil paints safely and to their maximum potential.
• Spatial relationships and composition.
• Perspective in realism.
• Colour mixing using a minimal palette.
• How to build texture using this medium.

An emphasis on master artists as a source of inspiration for their work will further strengthen student's knowledge and understanding of this advanced painting medium.
This program offers a unique opportunity to artists of this age to become proficient in the use of the traditional and most beautiful medium of oil paint.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THESE CLASSES:

• We invite students to arrive no more than 10 minutes prior to the start of class.
• Materials may stain or ruin clothing and we do not take responsibility for damage to clothing.
• Students are offered one make up class per term which must be pre booked to match the missed class. Please contact us to arrange your make-up class.
