Master Studio – Photorealism in Oils
Course details
Ben Howe is recognized as one of Australia’s leading painters of photo-realism, acclaimed for his exceptional body of work which is collected and exhibited regularly. With a deep dedication to his craft, Ben offers students the chance to be mentored by an artist who embodies the technical values of precise image-making using the traditional medium of oil paints.
This restructured course is designed for students with a foundation in observational painting, aiming to refine their skills in realism. Whilst not being tutored with a set curriculum, students can find guidance is provided in the following sectors:
- Brush techniques and strokes
- Colour theory and values
- Capturing light and shadow
- Developing underpaintings
- Image transfer methods
Please be aware that this is a multi-level Master Studio. We invite students with a background in foundational courses or experience in photorealism to join the space.

Comprehensive kits are discounted by 25% of regular retail prices and enrolled students receive a 10% discount on individual items. Kits are prepared and ready for collection on the first lesson of term.
