Courses on Offer – MSA Junior

Junior Artists (Ages 5-7yrs)

Our youngest Melbourne Studio of Art students experience a series of artistic challenges that introduce them to basic drawing and painting skills which give them a life-long foundation in their creativity.

Each term, students explore a variety of techniques that are backed up with art history, contemporary art and technical development. We strive even at this very young age to set their knowledge base up and learn how to look at work with a gentle critical eye.

At this stage of the child’s development we are also concerned with introducing them to the concept of expressing feelings through visual expression yet within the contained process of a planned project with a clear and solid outcome which they will be proud of.

Young Artists (Ages 8-10yrs)

As children aged 8-10 transition from childhood to adolescence, they begin to explore and develop their sense of self amidst a changing world. Our classes serve as a sanctuary from the challenges of today’s world, offering a creative outlet that encourages mindfulness and serves as a valuable alternative to screen time.

Through our structured curriculum, students engage in a variety of art processes inspired by artists, art movements, and techniques. As their technical abilities grow, so does their ability to vividly capture the world around them through art. In addition to artistic skills, we also teach students how to discuss their own work and provide constructive feedback to their peers, fostering a critical eye and enhancing their ability to articulate their perspectives.

Our experienced instructors guide students on a journey of artistic exploration, helping them develop a deeper understanding of art, artists, and art history. Many of our young artists surprise their parents with their knowledge and passion for the arts.

Private Tutoring

Private Tutoring is appropriate for students who need direct guidance with their work. At the Melbourne Studio of Art we believe that true progress in the capacity to draw, paint and sculpt happens over extended periods of study and practice.  However, we understand that at times people may not be able to attend regular classes and require one on one guidance.

These sessions are perfect for people who are also intending to apply for Fine Art Courses and require assistance in building folios for applications or who wish to receive feedback on work that they are doing.

One on one sessions are available from Mondays – Sunday depending on tutor availability. Please contact us to discuss availability.
