Led by Elsie Preston, an Honours graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts and a former student of the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS), this drawing program offers a blend of traditional and contemporary art practices. Elsie's expertise spans sculpture, drawing, painting, and installation.

Students in this program will receive instruction on mastering the fundamental principles of realistic drawing through observational techniques, as well as exploring contemporary drawing methods. They will focus on effortlessly creating portraits, still life, figures, and landscapes with an informed approach.

The curriculum covers essential topics such as the importance of line, managing perspective, building strong compositions, spatial relationships, proportions, materials, and drawing surfaces. Students will work from a variety of sources including still life, landscapes, photographs, life models, self-portraits, and portraits to develop their drawing skills.

This program comes highly recommended for students with a passion for pursuing a career in the arts. It provides them with a valuable head start in constructing a strong portfolio from a young age, setting a solid foundation for their future artistic endeavors.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THESE CLASSES:

  • We invite students to arrive no more than 10 minutes prior to the start of class.
  • Materials may stain or ruin clothing and we do not take responsibility for damage to clothing.
  • Students are offered one make up class per term which must be pre booked to match the missed class. Please contact us to arrange your make-up class.

  • Term length may vary according to government school timetables between 8 & 9 weeks.

Comprehensive kits are discounted by 25% of regular retail prices and enrolled students receive a 10% discount on individual items. All items are available for collection from our studio prior to course commencement.
